It is said that so many members of this Hose 3 volunteered for the Fire Zouaves, that the city discussed disbanding the company. Three men who had served or would serve as company foremen were privates in the Fire Zouaves: George W. Spencer (Co. I), Owen Campbell (Co. B), and Henry K. Woodruff (Co. B).
