CROTON
HOSE Co. 6 - Gouverneur St. & E. Broadway
Organized July 6, 1837

Jeremiah F. Gillin, who served as a Sergeant in Company F, was credited
for saving eight people from a building fire in a tenement house on
Division Street on January 3, 1860. He took a leap from the window,
after the ladder had been removed, injuring himself so as to require
six weeks of rehabilitation.
After his enlistment, Gillin was appointed chief detective to the Union
Pacific Railroad, and was later engaged in investigating the Ku Klux
Klan with the U.S. Secret Service.
